Tutors Needed: Common Ground Forward Scholars

Over a year ago, Common Ground started Forward Scholars, responding to the needs expressed by our members for one-on-one tutoring for their children attending MPS. We got MPS to share some of the CARES money they received for Covid relief and Forward Scholars LLC became a 501 [3][c] reality. John Cain [and Becky Hensley] stepped up to work with a student twice a week for a whole year, working on reading literacy. The program is a great success, and we want to expand it.

Will you help? Ever wanted to tutor a student, give back, experience the joy of seeing your student “get it”?  Well, Forward Scholars wants you and will train you and be by your side each day you are at the school. We pay staff to be on site and present to help the tutors.

The picture above is from John’s class at Stuart School, 7001 N 86th Street – the students are 4th graders, and they’re designing the new school playground. Feel free to talk to him about his experience. He loves what he is doing!

Please check out Forward Scholars HERE. You won’t feel this is wasted time. If you have any friends who might be interested, please pass on the information. We have tutors coming from all the suburbs as well as the city. This is a program where you might feel you get more than you give. It is that good!
