This Sunday, May 5 is Pentecost Day, when we celebrate the arrival of the Holy Spirit to empower the apostles and all of us for ministry. Acts 2:3 tells us that the Holy Spirit arrived as tongues of flame on the heads of the apostles, which is why bishops wear those ridiculous pointy hats: They’re supposed to look like they have a flame on their heads! That’s why I said to Bishop Lee several years ago, “You know, most people couldn’t pull that off, but on you it looks good!”
Flame is typically red, so the color of the day is fire engine red. Customarily, everyone wears red to church that day. So dig out your favorite Target employee clothing, and let’s get red together and celebrate the Spirit that empowers our ministry together. See you Sunday at 10!
