Deacon Dr. Dana Fritz was ordained on June 20, 2026.
Deacon Fritz spent most of her childhood and adolescence between Haubstadt, Indiana, and Winchester, Kentucky. She moved to Milwaukee in 2013. She received a BA in Philosophy and Sociology from Eastern Kentucky University, an MA in Humanities from the University of Chicago, and a PhD in Philosophy from Marquette University. Her dissertation was on the Autistic feminine experience and how it can inform philosophy.
Deacon Fritz was born with five congenital heart problems, Autism, and Bipolar I Disorder. She is also a lesbian. These identities have informed her faith, allowing her to identify with Jesus as a Savior who understands the full range of human experience, including strength, weakness, laughter, tears, power, and powerlessness. This view of faith has given her a passion for helping members of the disabled and LGBT+ communities. It has also informed her work at Marquette University, where she works full-time as a Teaching Assistant Professor of Philosophy. She teaches courses such as Philosophy of Race, Philosophy of Disability, Philosophy of Autism, and Biomedical Ethics.
Deacon Fritz has been a member of St. Paul since 2019. Her previous roles have included Adult Formation Director, Mentor for Education for Ministry, and member of the Vestry. She also did her field placement for the diaconate at St. Thomas of Canterbury in Greendale.
When not serving at church, Deacon Fritz can be found reading books on philosophy and theology. She is also an avid sports fan, with her favorite teams including the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, Kentucky Wildcats, Wisconsin Badgers, Duke Blue Devils, and of course, the Marquette Golden Eagles! Her guilty pleasure is watching soap operas, including General Hospital. Currently, she lives with her two rats (Magdalene and Phoebe) and a guinea pig (Banga).
