Many Autistic people have a complex relationship with psychology. On the one hand, psychology gives us the framework for an Autism diagnosis and provides therapies which greatly improve lives. On the other hand, psychology often focuses on suppressing Autistic behaviors, using methods many Autistic people find traumatizing. This creates a tension where the Autistic person is forced into passing as non-Autistic, something which can cause further psychological and spiritual harm.
Join us in the community room after the service this Sunday, April 28, as we examine the complicated relationship between the Autistic community and psychology, and explore how the Autistic person can retain their authentic selves amidst the pressures of society.
